Project Glade Guard, Part III

I'm attempting a post from my phone today, as I haven't had a chance to update on the computer.

Last night, I finished the GG cloaks, glued them on, and put the models on their bases. Afterwards, I painted their eyes. Then, i started the freehand you see above on a banner. Freehand is a weak skill for me, so that leaf is an accomplishment.

Anyway, I'll magnetize the models tonight, and then be Glade Guard free for the first time in three months!

Project Glade Guard, Part Two

I ended up putting about twelve hours into the twenty Glade Guard yesterday.  While they're not finished, they're certainly a lot further along than they were, and should be done by the end of the week.  I do have to return to work today, so further painting will occur in the evening.  Here's the plan:

This is what the GG currently look like:

The cloaks are not actually attached yet.  Tonight, I will highlight and wash the greens on the cloaks and then make thirty bases.  Tomorrow night, I'll paint the arrows and quivers, and then attach the Glade Guard.  At that point, I'll just need to do the eyeballs.

So wish me luck, and check twitter for updates!

Project Glade Guard

I've got a whole day off here today, with no real interruptions.  I also have thirty Glade Guard that I've been working on, in various stages of completion.  Ten are done except for their bases, and twenty have their green sections completely finished.  I also have twenty that are completely done. My goal is to finish the lot to an excellent standard with my time today.  It won't be easy, but I think I can just finish it if I work into the evening.  I'll be tweeting up pictures throughout the day through @quietlimit, and will hopefully have a full contingent of fifty finished Glade Guard to show off at the end of the day, being that much closer to a fully painted Wood Elf army of Avelorn.  If nothing else, this will be a great project for the day!

Weekend Goals: Memorial Day Weekend

Okay, so hobby production has been poor lately, because of a severe lack of free time.  But this weekend, if the stars align, hobby could happen.  Not on the actual weekend, mind, but because I have Monday off (and indeed, my office is closed) and my wife has to go to work for a teacher work day, I have an entire day to get things done.  Fun side note:  this will be the first non-sick day off I've had in a year and a half.

My mission:  Glade Guard.  I started a couple months ago with nineteen Glade Guard finished and thirty-seven in on the sprue.  I currently have thirty complete and twenty-seven assembled and base coated.  My plan is to use Monday to knock out twenty more Glade Guard, which will bring me to fifty finished and allow me to run my first Wood Elf list (once some Eagles are done).  It will also free me from Glade Guard jail and allow me to paint fun things for a while, such as Eagles, my General on an Eagle, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, and well, anything but Glade Guard.

So wish me luck, as I really want to get this done.  I've put a lot of effort into making these GG look good, each and every one of them, and really worked to step up my painting.

Diablo III

Oh, Diablo III.  Yeah, it's got me too.  Even if it had been terrible, I would have played it for the nostalgia of the first two games.

Although I don't have any real free time, I have managed to get a monk to level eleven in a week and a half.  If you're wanting to group up and I'm on, my gamertag is Tekore#1628.  Make sure you identify yourself in your friend request.  See you there!

Painted Arjac Rockfist

I didn't intend to paint the new Arjac Rockfist model just yet.  I dropped in on the new Games Workshop here in Raleigh on my lunch break at work, and after getting pressured for the forty-third time in two visits to buy some of the new Necrons or start playing Lord of the Rings, I ended up picking up this finecast model instead.

I would have hated putting this model together in metal, but the finecast went together quickly and simply.  I did manage to slice a piece of his shield out on accident, which you can see from the front, but I wasn't unhappy with how it looked.

It's a great model, full of detail, and I'm particularly pleased with how the face and the armor highlighting came out.  Comments and criticism are always welcome.

I'm Still Here

Wow.  So we don't usually take two week breaks here.  Work was just unexpectedly busy, and took everything else with it, including this blog.  I did do a few things over that time in the hobby.

*  I painted an Arjac Rockfist model.  It's a great model, and I have decided to be firmly in the pro-finecast camp at this point.  I would have hated working with that model in metal.

*  I've been working out a new Blood Angels paint scheme with the new GW paints, and am pleased with the first test model I've worked on, although I'm not sure how to base it.

*  Work continues on the Glade Guard.  There are 34 basecoated, and seven of those are finished except for basing.  I look forward to the finished unit, but this has really been a difficult project in terms of making myself do it.

*  I borrowed some Skaven for the local tournament this past Saturday, and ended up coming in 2nd out of fifteen players, with two massacres and a regular win.  I never worried about Skaven as a Beastmen player, but they can really tear up some armies.

*  I finally uploaded the Brawler Bash results onto Rankings HQ.

Brawler Bash Battle Reports: Round Three

Golgor surveyed the broken Ogre camp.  Victory had been won, but the herd had taken great losses, and he himself had been injured.  Perhaps it would have been better to be more grateful to the Dark Gods for the victory over the Skaven...it had been a very close fight with the Ogres again, and Golgor didn't know how long it would take to get the Horde moving again.

Suddenly, the air above Golgor began to crackle and pop.  A portal opened, and Lizardmen began to pour forth.  Eternal enemies of the Dark Gods!  Golgor roared to his scattered troops to form up!

Game Three of Brawler Bash was a Dawn Attack Scenario against Lane Webster.  He had a Shadow Slann and Life Slann, both with the ability that gives them +1 PD per cast.  It was very effective, and I seemed to run out of luck at the same time.   We did get into combat fairly quickly, but all of a sudden my magic really began to fail me, while his was fantastic.  I removed all of the Temple Guard save one from around one of the Slann, but suddenly couldn't get a spell off for three turns, which allowed him to keep it alive and bring help.

It was ugly.

I ended the game crushed, and didn't score many points on the way out.  So I ended up 2-1 on the day, with two big massacres and one crushing defeat.
