Weekend Update: February 20th, 2012

Well, Grail Quest IV:  Lethal Flagon is in the bag.  The tournament went smoothly, without any major hitches, and I'm well pleased by that.  We had thirty participants, and I think that overall a good time was had.

I'm getting the results into a presentable shape this evening, and should have more coverage from the event this week.

It's been a bit quiet here recently.  That's because tomorrow I'm hosting Grail Quest IV:  Lethal Flagon at Sci Fi Genre in Durham, North Carolina.  We have 41 players signed up for an awesome Warhammer Fantasy tournament, and I've been getting all the goodies together for a great time!  You can follow @quietlimit on Twitter and I'll be updating with tournament results throughout the day!

Weekend Update: February 13th, 2012

Well, there was no hobby this weekend.  Instead, there was only preparation for Grail Quest, coming up next weekend.  I had to borrow boards in order to have enough for the people coming, make sure we had enough tables, print and copy the scenarios, raffle sheets, registration sheet, score sheets, awards, and pictures of Gary Busey, cut everything out and sort and bag it, and fix the Fancy Lads banner, which had had a piece break off.  It ended up being a ton of work, and didn't leave much time for any painting.  Next weekend, I'll run the tournament, and then it will be time for some good hobbying.

Weekend Update: February 6th, 2012

Not much painting and modeling getting done this weekend, but there was a ton of gaming and a very busy weekend. 

On Saturday, I played in a 1,000 point, four round Warhammer 40K tournament.  Sadly, I went 1-3, with two losses being close and one loss coming from Grey Knights blowing me off the table on turn one before I had a chance to play.  These things happen in 1,000 points, I suppose.  Four short games did lead to me getting in four games on Innovation on the side, though, which was pretty great. 

On Sunday, I played in a session of Mouseguard first-timers, and it was pretty fantastic.  The great character creation and a combat/crafting/doing anything system that is simple and intuitive leads to a great game, as did the great people that I was playing the game with. 

I got three rounds of frisbee golf in as well, so all in all it a very enjoyable weekend, although I would love to have another weekend just to recover!

New Army Case / Display Board

I'm constantly looking for a way to easily and safely move my models around, and I'm constantly disappointed.  Foam is great for smaller armies, but it's tough with larger fantasy armies both in terms of setup time and the sheer amount of foam you need.  I have a nice wooden case, which holds a decent amount, but it weighs alot and is very large, so it only gets broken out for grand tournaments and the like. 

I think my latest attempt at creating a case might be the best so far.  I took a storage bin and lid, flipped the lid upside down, and glued some sheet steel to the underside of the lid.  The steel is painted, so that the lid can now be used as a display board, and my magnetized models now sit on the steel.  When I want to travel with the army or store it neatly, I can place the bottom section (the container) on top. 

The one downside is that I can't find a larger lid for even a huge storage bin, and will have to do some more looking around for that.  Right now, I can fit my 2500 points of Wood Elves on the bin I have, but I"ll need something larger for Beastmen or future projects that are not so compact.
