Hobby Update: 3-11-13

Here's what overnight working on...The Island of Blood. The Reavers are done, and I'm working through the Sea Guard. I've found the models more tricky than the Dark Vengeance set because of the High detail. I'm sticking with it, and hope to get everything out in the next month.

Brawler Bash Preparations

I haven't had a chance to post in a while.  My hobby time is pretty much dedicated to preparing to run Brawler Bash VI at this point.  BBVI is a Grand Tournament taking place on April 13th and 14th in Durham, North Carolina for both the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 systems.  We currently have seventy-six Fantasy players and seventeen 40K players signed up, so we're looking at a great turnout.

Yesterday, the amazing engraved swords for our winners arrived in the mail.  About 2.5 feet in length, they're very nice!

I Painted All of Dark Vengeance in Two Weeks, Part Two

When I decided how I was going to bust through the Dark Vengeance set, I decided to work on Chaos second.  First off, it's the larger of the two forces.  Secondly, it has a ton of duplicate cultists with not quite as much detail.  I spent most of the time with the Helbrute, the Lord and the Chosen.  I went with a purple and indigo color scheme to use some different color patterns than my usual work.  It's more Tzeentch and Slaanesh - ish work, but I like how it turned out.

I Painted All of Dark Vengeance in Two Weeks, Part One

Our local store, Atomic Empire, commissioned me to paint up the Dark Vengeance and Island of Blood sets for use in demo games.  I started with the Dark Vengeance set because I had a set that was already assembled and I needed to work my way up to painting all those Island of Blood Skaven.  I hammered out the full Dark Vengeance set over a two week period, and am delivering them this evening.  Here's the Dark Angels side, which I painted first, as it was smaller.  I decided that for demo game purposes, I would stick with a green and gray color scheme for the whole army rather than have three different schemes.  It made painting simpler, and I think works better as a coherent small force for a starter set.

Thirty Painted White Lions!

I'll be taking these guys out for their first battle today.

I recently finished putting together and painting these thirty White Lions (plus the final two Swordmasters).  Let me tell you, the plastic White Lions are not fun to put together!  The arms join at the hand on the axe, which is a really fiddly thing to fit together perfectly.

Now that they're done, though, I can field a 2500 point High Elf army, using my Wood Elf archers as core.  With the paint scheme all matching, everything works out great.  I'm thrilled to realize my goal of having an Avelorn army that can play as either High or Wood Elves.  It's a nice way to get some variety and have a different theme for these armies.

Painted Angron

I finished Angron up the other day.  I've had him for a few months, and he sat assembled and primed on my desk for a long time.  I was honestly a bit intimidated to paint him, as he is my first Forge World model and is highly detailed.

I changed a few details from the Forge World paint job.  First off, I used more reds overall, especially in the shoulder pads, and actually painted in the planets on the World Eaters emblem rather than leave them plain brass.

I still have the larger display base to paint at some point.  For now, Angron will be pulling duty as a counts as Lysander for a doubles tournament I'm playing in next month.  He'll collect a few skulls for a nice Skull Throne of his own.

Ramos and Steamborg Painted

I've been traveling a ton lately, so please excuse my infrequent posting. Here are the latest things I've painted. I picked up the Ramos starter box for Malifaux and have finished it. This is Dr. Ramos and his Steamborg Executioner. I look forward to trying them out in a game.

Swordmasters Painted

Having just finished this batch of 18 Swordmasters, I am now up to 28 completed. I have two more to do, both with standards. As you can see, these guys will blend in to my Wood Elf army to begin to transition it to a High Elf army.

Next up, I'm painting a Malifaux crew, then knocking out the two standards to finish all thirty Swordmasters.

Bull City Wargaming Episode 15

Hey kids!

It's all going on in this one. The lads talk Malifaux and their lists for Scarabcon. It's quite a rambling episode with talk of Lark Voorhies, Tom reviewing Infinity miniatures in a new unique way and Ben going to the douchiest bar in Durham.

Check us out at bullcitywargaming.com or on iTunes!

Enjoy!
